How does the ocean impact my life? People ask themselves this question, but not actually using their brains they just say that it’s just water with salt in it that people like to swim in. These people also think that other than fish no resources come from it, but they are totally wrong. The ocean has a huge impact on my life for many reasons. I will explain how oxygen, energy, food, and defense all come from the ocean.

The ocean creates oxygen for giving nutrients to blood; plants and animals are eaten as seafood and can be turned into thickeners for food and the potent chemicals of sea creatures help with cancer fighting agents that help save lives. Thursday January 12, 2012Every year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second, the ocean is providing everything we use in our daily lives. Food, some water, salt, cosmetics, glass, jewelry, and gold materials are found in the ocean. Even things like baby formula, fudge sauce, and whipped cream have algae it. And these things are only a few of what’s made from the ocean. Everything from mayonnaise to sour cream has things from the sea. But, the ocean takes away from us too. Every year, storms and tsunamis kill many people.

Thursday January 12, 2012The ocean impacts my life in many ways. I learned these ways while I was at Sea Camp and from during labs to prepare us for Sea Camp. This experience changed my whole outlook on the ocean and how much it does for us. Although there are many resources the ocean gives us I will talk about these four main resources: oxygen, everyday products, recreation/entertainment, and food. All of these resources we used and learned about at Sea Camp, and they are all extremely important to our welfare and the ocean’s welfare. I learned that in the plankton lab that without the ocean we’d probably all be dead now. The Sea Camp experience changed my life, and now I will never look at a product again without thinking it contains something from the ocean. (more…)

Thursday January 12, 2012In studying the ocean throughout this year, I’ve learned much about it: tides, marine organisms, waves, currents, and much more. One of the main ideas that my class has had to think about is how the ocean impacts each of our lives. There are five main ways that stand out to me (out of many others) for how it might impact my life: oxygen, food, recreation, human health, and energy. Each of these ways have their own importance.
